An amalgamation of romance, comedy and underlying emotions, Zero is a unique story that chronicles the journey of Bauua, Aafia and Babita. The storyline highlights an important message, which we so often fail to realise in the pursuit to achieve perfection.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead, along with Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Sheeba Chadha essaying pivotal roles, Zero is all set to take you on a hilarious yet emotional roller coaster ride. Directed by Aanand L Rai, and written by Himanshu Sharma, the movie is all set for its World Television Premiere on Sunday, 28th July 2019, at 8 PM only on Zee Cinema.
Set against the backdrop of Meerut, the story revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a short stature man who never falls short of confidence. His childlike innocence and his best friend Guddu Singh (Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub) come to his rescue every time he gets himself in a difficult situation. As the story moves ahead, Bauua through a matrimonial site meets Aafia Yusufzai (Anushka Sharma), an accomplished scientist, who is affected by Cerebral Palsy. Bauua uses all the tricks in the book to woo her and they soon fall in love. However, their love story faces a twist with the entry of Bauua’s crush Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif), a superstar whose heartbreak-induced-insecurities come disguised in her kajal-smeared eyes.
In a different approach taken by Anand L Rai, the movie showcases how these three characters propel from being a Zero to a Hero. Zee Cinema with its brand proposition ‘Seene Mein Cinema’ salutes people like Bauua, Aafia and Babita, who despite their internal conflicts find the jazba to make it big in life. Not only was the concept of the film appreciated by the critics, but the performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif were also lauded by the audience.
Aanand L Rai said, “Zero, by far, has been one of my best directorial ventures. The experience of bringing Zero to the audience has channelized the fearless, gutsy side of me, taking direction a notch higher as compared to my previous work. Zero while being a dreamy fairytale-like story, also highlights the struggles that individuals like you and me deal with every single day. With the movie premiering on Zee Cinema, I hope the story of Bauua, Aafia and Babita reaches out to as many people as possible, mainly the ones who are not able to freely express their dreams, their inhibitions. Lastly I would like to say that Zero is made with the intention of encouraging people to believe in themselves and be their own hero!”
Shah Rukh Khan who plays the lead role of Bauua Singh said, “Bauua Singh is someone who believes in living life to the fullest and is willing to take on any challenge life throws at him. Bauua is an inspiration to all and the movie sends out a message that one must never stop dreaming as dreams do come true. Zee Cinema’s brand proposition ‘Jazba hai jeene mein, jab Zee Cinema hai seene mein’ emulates this very spirit of common men like Bauua, who have the drive to live life on their own terms.”
Katrina Kaif added, “When I entered the industry I knew I had to put in a lot of hard-work to get where I am today. Zero, according to me, is a film that encourages people to look beyond what holds them back and live a fulfilling life that they always dreamt of. I consider this film close to me as it talks about the passion that everyone should have in their life.”
Anushka Sharma said, “In Zero, my character suffers from cerebral palsy, but as a character, she chooses to live her life and not succumb to her circumstances. The movie sends out a strong message and my character, Aafia chooses to fight her condition and fulfil her dreams. It is Aafia’s this zest for life that resonates with Zee Cinema’s campaign ‘Jazba hai jeene mein, jab cinema hai seene mein’ which is an ode to people like Aafia who have this kind of fighting spirit.”
The movie stands out because of its commendable use of VFX, to bring Bauua Singh to life. Bauua’s pint size has been achieved with the same technology that was used in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The soundtrack of Zero beautifully depicts the various emotions that the characters undergo throughout the movie. From the mesmerising ‘Mere Naam Tu’ to the lively ‘Issaqbaazi’ – featuring Salman Khan in a cameo along with Shah Rukh Khan, to Husn Parcham and Heer Badnaam; the music was widely loved. The film’s jukebox provides an interesting mix for all moods making Zero’s music an instant Hero with the masses.
