This 64 km road will connect Likaru to Fukche, merely 3 km away from the Eastern Ladakh Line of Actual Control (LAC). The new highest motorable pass, situated at a breathtaking altitude of 19,400 feet, is set to create a world record, surpassing the previously constructed Umling La pass at 19,024 feet, which held the title since 2021.

At an awe-inspiring elevation of 14,450 feet, Hanle’s extreme climatic conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as -20 to -30 degrees Celsius, posed an extraordinary challenge. Led by Colonel Ponung Doming, a trailblazing team of five engineers defied all odds to become the world’s first all-woman unit stationed at such a remarkable height.
Colonel Ponung Doming reflected, “The road we inaugurated, the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road spanning 64 km, traverses the imposing Mig La Pass at an elevation of 19,400 feet. Once completed, it will not only surpass the esteemed Umling La Pass but also set a new global benchmark, establishing a world record.”
These exceptional women are at the forefront of supervising road construction along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. These crucial roads will not only enable swift Indian force deployment along the LAC but also foster the development of the nation’s remote border regions.
