RBI Governor Dr Raghuram Rajan presented the first Ramnath Goenka Lecture on Saturday, 12 March at New Delhi. The Ramnath Goenka Lecture series is being launched by The Express Group to mark 25 years of the passing away of Ramnath Goenka, founder of The Indian Express. The lectures, in the spirit of Ramnathji and the newspaper, aim to deepen understanding of change and inspire debate on issues of vital contemporary interest.
While delivering the lecture on “India in the global economy”, Dr Rajan spoke about India’s engagement with the global economy, and how best to manage it in these turbulent times. Dr Rajan also stressed the need for structural reforms,explained why FDI is “stable investment” & underlined the need to enable business activity without imposing “too much design”
The lecture was held at the Oberoi, New Delhi & was attended by some the top bureaucrats, politicians, diplomats, economists, media personalities & artists such as P. Chidambaram, Arun Shourie, Zia Mody, D.Raja, Surjit Bhalla, Rajdeep Sardesai, Sagrika Ghose, Sharmila Tagore, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi to name a few
