When The Girl Is Two Steps Ahead of The Boy

Zee TV’s upcoming fiction offering – Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain, explores the reactions faced by a couple where the woman is more successful than her husband

A channel that is known for its thought-provoking narratives that questions people’s mindsets about a variety of subjects relevant to Indian society, Zee TV is back with a story that will make audiences reconsider their approach towards women achieving more than their male counterparts. A woman is often told – Focus on your marriage, not just your career. If you keep achieving on the career front, it won’t be long before your relationship slips out of your hand. And if the woman in question begins to make significant strides at work and is possibly looked upon as more successful than her husband, she is warned that her success could make him insecure and the marriage itself could fall apart.

Such is the conundrum of Paragi Parashar, the female protagonist of Zee TV’s next fiction offering, Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain, who along with her love interest Sanjay Pathak, is preparing for her UPSC exam. While both of them are extremely motivated towards their joint goal of becoming IAS officers, the show captures the dynamics between the two families after Paragi clears her exam with flying colours and Sanjay doesn’t!

Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain will feature popular television actress Akshita Mudgal who will be portraying the role of Paragi, a smart, witty, and studious girl. On the other hand, the role of Sanjay will be played by none other than Hitesh Bharadwaj. Both of them will be seen playing IAS aspirants and the two actors are kicked about being part of such a unique show which will air from 6th Dec, every Monday – Saturday at 6:30PM.

Zee TV Business Head Aparna Bhosle said, “Our upcoming fiction show, Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain, is a dramatic love story that presents an interesting scenario where the girl is a step ahead of the boy in terms of career accomplishments. Our show captures the diverse reactions the couple faces from both sides of the family and the impact it will have on their relationship.”

To give the media an essence of the show’s core premise, Zee TV had popular television actress Anita Hassanandani, host a UPSC quiz for our leads – Paragi and Sanjay where Paragi clearly emerged as better prepared for her UPSC prelims. This led Anita to raise a very pertinent question about the reactions this couple will draw from certain sections of the society that continue to believe that a husband needs to be more successful than his wife.

Anita Hassanandani said, “I laud Zee TV for coming up with Iss Mood Se Jate Hain, their new show with an extremely relevant message at its heart. It captures what happens to a relationship where the girl is a step ahead of the boy in terms of their career goals. We are in the 21st century where women have made strides in practically every sphere that a man has forayed into. Yet society still expects women to be less successful than their husbands in the career game. While men are encouraged to prioritize their careers, women are often told to focus on their marriage. If a woman is professionally more successful than her partner, reactions from society create a challenging dynamic in their relationship. It is high time we began looking at career accomplishments from a gender-agnostic lens.”

She further added, “As a woman constantly motivated to excel and reach my fullest potential, I want to thank my husband Rohit for being the wind beneath my wings. I believe women can – and should – dream big and reach out for the stars and I thank Zee TV for putting out this message in an interesting manner through its show.”

Akshita Mudgal said, “I think the best part about Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain is its unique concept and the characters of Paragi and Sanjay. Our story focuses on how society reacts when a woman in a relationship gets ahead of her partner. We have been conditioned in a way where men are supposed to be more successful in terms of career while the woman of course can work but not be a step ahead in the career game. I think our show will make the audience question this mindset and inspire them to bring a change to their thought process.”

Hitesh Bharadwaj added, “I guess it’s high time we bring a change in the societal norms that dictate that a man needs to be more successful in his career than his wife. Our show talks about the reactions a couple faces when the woman is a few steps ahead of her man in their joint goal of becoming IAS officers. As a mature sensitive husband, my character Sanjay supports Paragi throughout. I’m hoping Iss Mod Se Jaate Hain gets people thinking in the right spirit about the issue.

Producer Saurabh Tewari from Parin Multimedia said, “Our last association with Zee TV was the gloriously successful Zindagi Ki Mahek, so now we’re excited to present audiences with our upcoming show on the channel – Iss Mod Se Jaate Hai. The story touches upon a problematic social construct where a man is free to prioritize his career, but a woman is often told to focus on her marriage and not over-achieve, lest she should end up making her husband insecure and risk jeopardizing her marriage. The reactions of society when our lead protagonist Paragi goes one step ahead of her partner Sanjay in their goal of becoming IAS officers form the crux of our show. We would be happy if the show manages to make viewers introspect and reconsider their views on gender equality.”
