What India ordered on Swiggy this NYE and to welcome 2026

If the final night of 2025 was any indication, India’s resolution for the new year is clearly to keep the feasts coming. New Year’s Eve was truly one big feast on Swiggy across the country! From biryani, burgers to pizzas and desi desserts, we witnessed India ordering comfort, familiar food that adds to their NYE celebrations.

The party started early in the emerging metros and cities like Patna, Surat, Vadodara, Nagpur, Jaipur, Pune, and Indore witnessed the NYE energy loading from evening hours. The initial trends saw Cakes, Pizzas and Biryanis amongst top trending food items.

Biryani once again proved that it is the undisputed king of the Indian party. The dish reigned supreme, clocking a staggering 218,993 orders before the clock even struck 7:30 PM. As the night intensified, the momentum hit a fever pitch, peaking at an incredible 1,336 biryani orders per minute just before 8:00 PM. Highlighting the scale of the celebrations, one ambitious host in Bhubaneswar took “party size” to the next level by ordering 16 kilos of Biryani in a single go.

Meanwhile, the age old battle between Pizzas and Burgers continued.. By 8:30 PM, over 2.18 lakh pizzas had been dispatched, while burgers put up a fight with over 2.16 lakh orders, proving that India’s palate is as diverse as its celebrations.

Beyond the numbers, it was the individual stories of appetite that stole the show. A customer in Bengaluru ordered 100 burgers in a single order, while a Goa user ordered an indulgent spread of 39 portions of kebabs, tikkas and more. In Gurugram, a user ordered 18 boxes of Brownies and 18 Plum cakes. A customer in Nagpur displayed unparalleled dedication, placing more than 93 orders throughout the day. In Surat, a single customer ordered from 22 unique restaurants on just December 31, 2025.

As night progressed, Indian desserts reigned supreme with Rasmalai, Gajar Halwa and Gulab Jamun amongst the top 5 desserts ordered around 10.30 PM.

Also, the popular food to start 2026 was Pizza!

Dining out

“Stepping Out” was a preferred choice for many this NYE. While Bengaluru and Hyderabad led the way on Swiggy Dineout, the enthusiasm for celebratory dining surged across emerging hubs. Ahmedabad led the growth charge with a staggering 1.6x increase in bookings, followed closely by Lucknow (1.3x) and Jaipur (1.2x).

Vadodara and Chandigarh saw the ultimate squad goals come to life, with massive bookings for 30 in each of the cities, through Swiggy Dineout. A customer in Mumbai celebrated in style, with a single bill of INR 94,251. A customer in Pune saved a massive 61.3% on their bill, while a customer in Chennai enjoyed 50% in savings.

As the party continues into the first week of 2026, Swiggy remains committed to ensuring that for every craving, big or small, the answer is just a tap away.
