The initiative introduces ‘Ladies Special Toilet’, a dedicated washroom installation near Mumbai’s iconic Parel Cha Raja, offering women access to a safe and hygienic facility from 14th to 24th September
For over three decades, Zee TV has been at the forefront of celebrating women through stories that reflect their aspirations, resilience and journeys. Taking this commitment beyond the screen, the channel brings the spirit of ‘Zee TV Ladies Special’ to the heart of Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with a simple yet significant intervention that makes access to a clean and hygienic washroom easier for women.
Ganesh Chaturthi transforms Mumbai into a city of devotion, drawing thousands of devotees to iconic pandals across the city. As women navigate crowded streets, long queues and several hours of festivities in search of darshan, access to a safe, clean and hygienic washroom becomes more than just a basic need. It is closely linked to their comfort, dignity and ability to participate freely in the celebrations. In high-footfall areas, where crowds and extended hours can make access to facilities challenging, this everyday need becomes an important part of a woman’s overall experience of the festivities.
Women often find themselves planning their day around washroom availability, limiting their water intake or relying on cafés and restaurants, sometimes making an unnecessary purchase simply to access a clean facility. During large public celebrations, these limitations can become even more pronounced, turning what should be a basic convenience into a compromise on comfort, dignity and participation. Recognising that access to safe sanitation is an everyday need not just a festival-time concern Zee TV brings this often-overlooked aspect of women’s experience into focus.
Addressing this need, Zee TV introduces ‘Ladies Special’, a dedicated washroom installation for women near Mumbai’s celebrated Ganpati Pandal, ‘Parel Cha Raja’. Designed to be easily identifiable and accessible, the facility is available from 14th to 24th September, giving women a safe and hygienic space to use while they participate in the festivities.
With ‘Zee TV Ladies Special’, the channel turns this insight into action. The initiative serves as a visible reminder that something as fundamental as access to a clean washroom should never become a barrier to a woman stepping out, participating in celebrations or simply enjoying her day.
Adding further momentum to the initiative, several popular female artists from Zee TV visited the toilet and extended their support to the campaign. By joining hands with the initiative and encouraging greater awareness, the artists help amplify a conversation around women’s hygiene and an everyday need that often goes unspoken.
The initiative reflects Zee TV’s larger philosophy of celebrating women in ways that extend beyond representation on screen. Through ‘Zee TV Ladies Special’, the channel creates a meaningful on-ground touchpoint that combines purpose with action, bringing greater visibility to women’s comfort, dignity and participation at a time when the city comes together in celebration.
Speaking about the initiative, Mangesh Kulkarni, Chief Channel Officer, Zee TV, says,“Zee TV has always believed that the role of a brand is not just to reflect society, but also to influence it in meaningful ways. Our stories have given women a voice, celebrated their choices and challenged the conventions that often define their journeys. With ‘Zee TV Ladies Special’, we are taking that philosophy a step further by identifying the everyday gaps that women experience and finding ways to make a tangible difference. For us, the larger vision is to build a culture where women’s needs are not treated as an afterthought, but are instinctively considered when we create, participate and shape public spaces. ‘Ladies Special’ is one expression of that belief. We hope it becomes more than an installation during the festive season and instead contributes to a larger shift in how we think about women’s comfort, dignity and participation in everyday life.”
Through ‘Ladies Special’, Zee TV turns a simple intervention into a larger thought: meaningful change begins with recognising the everyday needs that often go unnoticed and creating spaces where those needs are acknowledged, addressed and impossible to overlook.
