Global pay TV revenues to fall by $23 billion

Global pay TV revenues for 138 countries peaked in 2016 at $199 billion. Revenues will fall to $118 billion in 2029, down from $141 billion in 2023 – despite the number of pay TV subscribers increasing slightly.

Satellite TV revenues will drop by $11 billion to $38 billion, with digital cable also down by $11 billion to $50 billion. Analog cable will lose a further $1 billion. IPTV will be flat at $28 billion.

Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “The US will provide the most dramatic fall – by $15 billion from the global decline of $23 billion. US pay TV revenues will drop to $44 billion in 2029 – down by 25%, with subscriber numbers down by 16%. The US will still account for 36% of global revenues by 2029, down from 41% in 2023.”
