Annapoorani shines through Zee Tamil's Creative Campaign

Zee Tamil, one of the leading entertainment channels, is renowned for its popular fiction and reality shows that consistently receive great support from its viewers. The channel has also presented some highly anticipated World Television Premieres, offering audiences a unique blend of entertainment and they have lapped them up. Reflecting its commitment to contributing positively to society, Zee Tamil has also organised numerous activities surrounding some of their key offerings.

The channel recently premiered Nilesh Krishna’s epic directorial, Annapoorani. Aired last month on 23rd July, the movie garnered a massive viewership, marking a significant turnaround for the movie which previously faced considerable negative criticism. Featuring a stellar ensemble including Lady Superstar Nayanthara, Jai, Poornima, Karthik Kumar, Sathyaraj, Losliya, and Redin Kingsleym the movie which follows the inspiring story of a young woman – Annapoorani – did not get great reviews.

Annapoorani revolves around the titular character’s struggle as she pursues hotel management while wading of the pressure of her family for arranged marriage, only to encounter numerous challenges along the way. Despite its compelling narrative and outstanding performances, the movie faced significant criticism during its theatrical release and OTT release. In an effort to shift the movie’s narrative and transform the negative conversations surrounding the film into a celebration of its culinary theme, in a first-of-its-kind initiative for a world television premiere on a TV channel, Zee Tamil launched the ‘Parthal Pasi Theerum’ campaign ahead of the film’s television premiere.

This unique campaign invited viewers to participate in a noble cause by giving a missed call to a dedicated number during the broadcast of the film. For every 10 unique missed calls received, Zee Tamil pledged to sponsor a meal for the needy through a collaboration with the NGO Thagam Foundation. The campaign was promoted extensively through press releases and by engaging with food bloggers and influencers on social media, generating widespread attention and positive buzz around the film. The creative strategy received an overwhelming response and helped the movie achieve a good rating for a movie premiere. What’s more is that Zee Tamil also sponsored meals of 5000 people through the help of their trusted partners.

Zee Tamil’s unique initiative with Annapoorani has emerged as a prime example of effective brand storytelling and integrated communication approach.
