Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, has appointed Sukanta Das as the Managing Director of its India branch, with regional responsibilities extending to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the UAE.
Sukanta brings over two decades of diverse experience in commercial and consumer sectors, spanning large corporations and start-up ventures in India. Based in Delhi-NCR, he will spearhead OUP’s strategic expansion and growth across India to drive OUP’s comprehensive portfolio, which encompasses school education, higher education, academic programs, English language teaching, blended learning, and dictionaries.
Announcing the appointment, Ms. Fathima Dada, Managing Director – Education, Oxford University Press, said, “Sukanta brings with him extensive consumer expertise and a wealth of experience. We are confident that he will leverage his knowledge and insights to benefit our mission of advancing knowledge and learning. We believe he will be a valuable addition to the India team, helping us continue to grow in the region.”
Before joining OUP, Sukanta held a prominent leadership role at Vodafone Idea, where he led the largest cluster, Gujarat, as Business Head. His career journey includes key leadership positions with renowned organizations in India such as ITC, Eveready, CEAT, Vodafone, and Firefox Bikes (a Hero Motors Company). An accomplished professional, Sukanta is an alumnus of Calcutta University, the New Delhi Institute of Management, and IIM Ahmedabad.
With his extensive experience and proven track record, Sukanta is poised to infuse fresh perspectives into OUP, continuing its sustained success in the dynamic and ever-evolving publishing industry.
Sukanta Das has replaced Sumanta Datta who moved on from OUP in November 2024.
