Garnered more than 500,000 mentions which was nearly 8X that of recently held Copa America event

The biggest ever UEFA Championship ever contested constituting 24 teams was recently concluded in France. The one-month event has garnered significant TV viewership in India. While the sporting event was big on TV, it created a lot of chatter on social as well. GroupM’s commandcenter Maxus MESH shares an exclusive snapshot to give our readers a glimpse at interesting digital stats around the tournament, that ended on Monday.

Insights:

The event garnered more than 500,000 mentions which was nearly 8X that of recently held Copa America event.

While the day of finals between France and Portugal undoubtedly received the highest mentions, it was the quarter-final match between Germany and Italy which received the 2nd highest traction from Indian audience

Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Euro Cup 2016 winner Portugal was the all-time hero clocking maximum mentions during the tournament followed by Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Mumbai followed by Delhi-NCR were the top buzzing cities and contributed to approx. 50% of the buzz around Euro Cup 2016.

Official sponsors hardly had any social buzz with only Sony Network clocking 22K mentions and also getting the credit for the most shared post published on their Facebook page on 9th July around “Predicting the winner in Finals”.
